Featured Friday: Pikes Place Market
Hello to all of you lovely people and readers! We hope you are having a glorious Fri-yay and you have some amazing plans for the weekend. There has been a lot of exciting things happening on our end, which include, leaving the beautiful Seattle to drive across country, and now currently writing this Featured Friday blog post in my New York apartment! It’s honestly the craziest journey living out our dreams and manifestations and this has been the most challenging yet rewarding journey I have ever embarked on. Before we started releasing some of our New York content, it didn’t feel right without putting out one more Seattle based Featured Friday so I am very excited to highlight the ever-so famous yet small business focused location. Time to dive into one of the best market places ever!
Pikes Place Market is one of the largest markets in the United States, located in Seattle, where dozens of local farmers, fishers, growers, and artists sell thousands of products everyday. This area itself stretches a few miles and has a store, restaurant, or stall for anything you could possibly imagine and you could very well shop through this market for days. I absolutely adore this market because it feels exactly like the Seattle aura; local, fun, friendly, diverse, busy, unique, and home-grown. With so many amazing options its no wonder why tourist can feel easily overwhelmed by the never ending choices of things to do and try. Within this blog we will break down some of our favorite locations and must try’s.
1.First its a must to shop for your favorite groceries! There are so many options to shop for fresh items for affordable prices, it would be crazy not to indulge in some home cooking. This is a great time to stock up on amazing fresh fish, delicious fruits, and flavorful vegetables. Another great opportunity if you don’t feel like cooking is visiting the plethora of restaurants attached to the farmers market area overlooking the water to taste some of these products prepared by an amazing cooking team.
2. Next, you have to stop by and grab a drink at Rachel’s Ginger beer. The past three times we have visited Seattle we have stopped at Rachel’s because their Moscow mules are honestly to die for. They have a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks with very interesting flavor choices that include pineapple, pomegranate, and blueberry. Stop by Rachels and grab a drink while you shop (I suggest the blood orange and white peach mule which is my favorite.)
3. While your doing your shopping you will very quickly recognize the scent of a restaurant located on the corner of the market called Beechers handmade cheese, and believe me when I say, you have now entered Cheese heaven. Beechers has all items cheese and you can choose from some handmade items that include Mac and Cheese, Grilled Cheese, and cheeses for a charcuterie board. The quality and flavors are simply out of this world, and my mouth is watering by just thinking of dipping their gooey grilled cheese into their comforting tomato soup.
4. Between shopping and eating you can also cross off a very popular landmark in Seattle, and that is their famous gum wall. Right in the beginning of the market there is a long alleyway covered in thousands of people’s used gum. This iconic spot suggests guests to leave their own mark on these bright colored walls, but I found it to be a tad gross so we left a business card attached by gum quite quickly and left. Never the less it is still worth paying this notorious spot a quick visit!
5. Le Panier is next on our list and this wonderful French cafe and bakery spot is a great place to grab a late lunch. They offer a delicious assortment of baked goods, sandwiches, and salads to satisfy those afternoon cravings and is definitely worth paying them a visit.
6. By now your probably facing those afternoon caffeine crashes and there is no better place than visiting the first ever Starbucks! You heard that right, alongside this beautiful market you can check out a land mark in coffee making and buy a coffee at the place that started it all. This place also has some really cool merchandise and souvenirs for the avid Starbucks fan.
7. Next, my absolute favorite activity when visiting this market is to buy the MOST beautiful flower bouquets. Like seriously, I am an avid flower buyer/receiver and I have never in my life seen such beautiful flower bouquets and they only range from $20-30 dollars. My heart absolutely melts seeing the most fresh and blossomed sunflowers, peonies, hydrangeas, roses, and Lilys. A must to take a picture with a bouquet for the gram!
8. Lastly, to call any day perfect and successful it is time to grab some delectable treats at Joe’s Chocolates Co. Take some mouth watering chocolates, fudges, sweets, and treats to go to enjoy at home and satisfy that sweet tooth! This last shop will surely put the cherry on top of your perfect at the Pike’s Place Market.
What a perfect day! Pike’s Place seriously is one of my favorite locations in Seattle because there is simply hundreds of things to see, do, and eat. On top of these awesome adventures I also highly recommend enjoying some oyster shots, trying a gyro, and watch the fisher man throw flying fish at one another. I already miss Seattle with my heart and soul so much and I can not wait to return! Thank you all for joining in on another Featured Friday, please let us know if you have any recommendations for New York. We can not wait to meet more small and local business, and really feel apart of this community. We hope you have some amazing plans this weekend that maybe includes attending one of your local markets to try some of the flavors in your neighborhood. We will see you next week!
Stay Safe and Happy Travels.
