Featured Friday: Little Island
Hello, hello, hello everyone! How is all of our readers doing? I know we previously took the last two Friday’s off but there has been so much movement and exciting things happening on our end. It was time to continue along our journey so we bid our farewells to New York and have been road tripping around the United States, visiting a ton of cities and states. We soon hope to call the Bay Area and San Francisco our new home, but we also celebrated a huge accomplishment in this past week! It has officially been OnBrand’s One Year Anniversary and we were so excited to celebrate and had an absolute blast shooting for it in New York. We will be releasing a year recap blog later this week but we would love to say thank you to all of you for your continuous support. We love everyone who has been following along our journey and we could not be more grateful for our readers coming back weekly to check up on our blogs and Featured Fridays. On that note we're excited to jump into this weeks Featured Friday.
New York is such a wonderful and iconic place populated by millions and filled with thousands of large corporations, local shops, mom and pop restaurants, and most importantly parks. When we were thinking of which areas we wanted to Feature on our blog for our Featured Friday segment we wanted to capture the essence of the local neighborhoods and the personalities that cultivate these areas. Due to the dense concrete jungles, the parks system really has become a refuge for New York residents to escape the daily hustle and bustle and to gain footing in their crazy worlds. I know when we became overwhelmed or were simply looking for an afternoon to relax we would find ourselves settling within Central Park, Washington Square Park, or Bryant Park. It became very important to us that we wanted to focus one of our Friday segments on New York’s intricate park system and what better location to highlight then the brand new location called Little Island located by the Hudson River. The new architecture novelty and landmark rose from the remnants of Pier 54, and still stands on some of the original beams that held up the previous pier. What now stands is a beautiful and captivating community structure in place for many different kinds of leisure and play.
In general, all of New York’s architecture is breath taking so I was very curious to see what this park had in store for the community. Barry Diller, park designer, stated that he wanted “a space that on first sight was dazzling, and upon use made people happy” and I can testify that this space does exactly that. The revolutionary space holds the capacity for all of its occupants and for any use that they are seeking. Whether this be, to simply sit on a bench and enjoy perfect 365 degree views of New York, The Hudson, and New Jersey. To take a stroll and interacting with fun activities and games created within the park. To different outdoor theaters where you can catch a spectacular live event. To even a fun outdoor patio area and food trucks that can satisfy any midday cravings, you truly have it all within one structured area. We had a fabulous time touring the park and discovering all of the fun things that were offered at the location and I would highly recommend families, friends, or couples coming here for a day to enjoy the area. Even the restrooms were state of the art and thoughtfully designed. All in all we were extremely impressed with the attention to detail and hard work that obviously went into building this beautiful structure.
This park seemingly paralleled the New York community in general and we could not get enough of the vibrant soul that rippled through the park. In its entirety there was so many different walks of life that occupied the area, and it felt amazing to be amongst so much diversity looking to relax and enjoy a beautiful new park space together. Everywhere you looked there was local street performers, New York runners, families bonding with their children, doggies running and playing, all to the steady drum and pace of the New York life. We truly loved every single second of it. If you were to ask me what some of my favorite things to do in New York City was, it truly was to grab a local slice of pizza and relax in a park with my loved ones. I hope you all get the opportunity to experience this beautiful city in this light someday and you have the chance to check out this new Hudson location.
Well that is that folks we hope you enjoyed this weeks Featured Friday and if you find yourself visiting the area any time soon you make it a point to visit Little Island. Wherever you are in the world I hope you get the chance to slow down, maybe visit one of your local parks, and have some special memories this weekend. We will see you on our next blog.
Stay Safe and Happy Travels.
