Featured Friday: Simply Gum
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our fifteenth Featured Friday. It is so crazy that we have been doing this segment on our blog for fifteen weeks straight, and it’s honestly been such a crazy cool experience. We have been able to meet such incredible people and business owners while also trying out the most innovative and ethical products. This weeks product and company are nothing short of these things so lets jump into it.
Anyone who knows me personally knows that you will always catch me with a piece of gum in my mouth (I know I’m a nervous chewer). To be frank about how constantly I am chewing I go through the large pack of 5 gum a week. Birdi always joked with me about finding a better brand of gum made by an ethical company, and to be honest I didn’t pay much mind to this concept. That is, until Birdi surprised the hell out of me and found a gum that is all those things and more. The company is called Simply Gum and they are an all natural brand with an ethical twist that produces products like gum and mints. Off first impression the packaging caught my attention because the pieces came loosely in a bio-degradable box with disposable wrappers in the back that you can discard your gum into, which I thought was unique and innovative.
After looking more in-depth into the company, I quickly came to realize that there is a whole side of the gum industry that was shocking, however Simply Gum is challenging this status quo. Did you know that the gum base, in most if not all chewing gums is made up of plastic, so yes I have been religiously chewing plastic my whole life (crying in the club). Instead of using plastic the company uses an ingredient called chicle which is an all natural tree sap. On top of ensuring their gum is filled with the best ingredients and no artificial sweeteners while also being the only gum that is biodegradable, the entire vibe and look of the company is completely authentic. The style of the gum are smaller rounder tan bit pieces instead of the regular bright stick gum, which I honestly like this look of the gum more.
Overall I know its kind of funny to say but changing my daily gum brand has changed my life. We are constantly surrounded by so many consumer and product choices in the day, and if we could consciously take the time to look into the brands we use on the daily we can help promote businesses that stand for something better. I really appreciate the ethics and morals of this businesses and I would have to say I have officially converted over to a better gum.
