Featured Friday: Evander Cruz
Hello and welcome to our 19th Featured Friday on Friday the 19th! The fact that we have been doing this for 19 weeks now is just as crazy as the fact that its already mid March. We hope everyone had an awesome St. Patrick’s day filled with great food and are getting ready for a hopefully sunshine weekend. My favorite part about these features, is being able to connect with the amazing businesses in our own community, especially when they happen to be your barber! Lets dive right into this weeks Feature, Evander Cruz!
Evander was recommend to me by my cousin back in November when I was on the hunt for a new barber, and the search was over on my first visit. Evander is an exceptional Barber here in Tracy that has been cutting hair out of his house for a decade now and was gracious enough to allow Rayna and I to take some awesome pictures during a haircut and interview him for our feature. While talking with him during the process, he shared his passion behind wanting to learn to cut hair, which steamed from wanting to finally have a “barber” hair cut over a “salon” hair cut (yes there is a huge difference). So he took it upon himself to learn and actually teach himself. He looked to Youtube and other social media outlets where he was able to actually self teach himself the skill set to be a barber and started practicing cutting hair for free on his close friends and family for his first year. Now 10 years later Evander runs his own successful shop out of his home where he is able to follow his passion and has became extremely popular in town. He has really excited dreams and goals of hopefully opening up his own shop in town one day and we’re thrilled to be able to watch him on his journey.
When asked “what inspires you”, Evander responded with, “I’’ll be my own boss and meet new people, each day is different. I can help people feel and look their best.” And let me say, he does an excellent job. From the warm greeting you get when you sit down, to the intellectual conversations, and the care he takes of you with the blade, there is no wonder why Evander is our Feature for the week! And even off the chair, Evander is always one to make people feel their best by giving back to the homeless or even being the one friend or family member you can always go to for help.
Evander would like to let all the readers know, “If you have a goal in life, don’t be afraid to go for it. Don’t let anyone bring you down or to tell you “you can’t do it””. This is exactly the energy we here at OnBrand resonate with! Being able to be self motivated, follow a passion, and create your own business are such admirable qualities.
